LPN: Clinic-*Eligible for Difficult-to-Fill Incentives Clinical Informatics Coordinator 

POSITION SUMMARY: This position contributes to the fulfillment of Thayer County Health Services vision and mission by being responsible for clinical process transformation processes related to development, implementation, and evaluation of the electronic health record (EHR). This position works collaboratively within clinical informatics, information technology, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the integration of clinical science with computer science for optimal operations. This position primarily supports electronic health record internal users. 

SUPERVISION: Reports to Chief Operations Officer 

SHIFT: Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Days (On site) 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • • Associate degree or equivalent experience in informatics, information systems or a clinical field required. 
  • • Bachelor's degree preferred. 
  • • Clinical licensure preferred (i.e. RN, LPN or other clinical) but not required. • Minimum three years of experience in a clinical setting preferred. 
  • • Oracle Cerner support experience preferred. 
  • • Various hardware and software equipment and technology expertise preferred. 
  • • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and customer service skills required. 
  • • Critical thinking, prioritization skills, and excellent personal management skills required. 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • • Coordinates development and maintenance of clinical applications through collaboration with all clinical and financial departments. 
  • • Supports clinical users with high quality customer service and care. Regularly spends time in all departments, serving as the primary contact for the EHR and trouble-shooting issues. Assists with department workflows and training. Serves as a mentor and super user in clinical information systems, teaching and motivating clinical staff in using the clinic/financial information systems to the highest potential. 
  • • Maintains a high level of visibility within supported departments. 
  • • Advocates for TCHS interests with EHR and clinical system vendors. 
  • • Participates in limited organizational on-call (remote access) support as needed. 
  • • Actively and continuously seeks out learning opportunities related to clinical information systems, department workflows, and optimization as a life-long learner. Participates in research related to the clinical information system and other practice issues as appropriate. 
  • • Enhances personal growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops. 
  • • Coordinates all aspects of system updates, in partnership with the information technology department, including reviewing release notes and coordinating set up, new user set up, information additions to the system, implementing and training affected clinical departments, updating policies and procedures related to clinical informatics, and maintaining a flexible work schedule to assist with installations, repairs, upgrades and projects that are performed during operationally optimal timeframes. 
  • • Assesses information and knowledge needs of health care professionals to improve quality and patient care outcomes. Assists patients with outreach technology solutions as needed. 
  • • Provides education for health care providers and new staff related to the EHR. 
  • • Leads clinical system-related projects and implementations through effective project management, demonstrating ownership and coordinating stakeholder engagement. Maintains a thorough understanding and working knowledge of the core applications and their association with other information systems within the organization. 
  • • Provides leadership in the development and revision of initiatives, programs, data mining and systems related to data collection, retrieval, analysis, and interpretation which assist in optimizing patient outcomes, quality of care delivery, patient safety, effectiveness, and efficiency. 
  • • Participates in off-site meetings to further knowledge in clinical systems and related objects. 
  • • Participates in developing policies and procedures pertaining to use of clinical information systems. 
  • • Complies, understands, and enforces state and regulatory requirements related to the performance of TCHS operations and requirements, including but not limited to HIPAA, departmental and organization-wide policies, Critical Access requirements, and Federal and State of Nebraska regulations. 
  • • Involved in a quality assurance program that provides optimal patient care and works collaboratively together with hospital and organization team members to ensure quality patient care for core measures and promoting interoperability. 
  • • Responsible for maintenance of the EHR-related performance. 
  • • Willingly performs other duties as assigned.

  • • Understands and comply with the requirements of Thayer County Health Services’ Compliance Program, including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Manual. All supporting policies for compliance and compliance plans. 
  • • Participates in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by organizational policy and as requested by supervisor. 
  • • Demonstrates a formal, friendly greeting with patients, visitors and TCHS staff. 
  • • Willingly accepts new responsibilities and cooperates with implementation of change. 
  • • Dresses in a neat, clean professional attire, according to Dress Policy; maintains high personal hygiene standards. 
  • • Demonstrates respect, integrity, compassion, and excellence through a “We Care” philosophy with all patients, visitors, and TCHS staff. 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Indoor, smoke free, patient care environment. 
  • • Some travel may be required for educational opportunities.
  • • Frequent contact with biohazardous materials and communicable diseases.
