The Fourth of July brings a whirlwind of events to Thayer County, but the fun doesn’t stop at the end of the month. There are plenty of events and activities throughout August for visitors who want to explore this beautiful corner of Nebraska.

Attend the Thayer County Fair from August 5-8

One of the most exciting events every summer is the Thayer County Fair, which runs from August 5-8, 2026. This is a jam-packed event with an antique tractor show, parades, kids' rodeo, livestock demonstrations, and an exciting lineup of live music. Attendees can wander through the booths, buy food and crafts from local vendors, and marvel at the open class submissions. There’s even a carnival with rides and games that your children will love.

“The fair is one of the best ways to learn what Thayer County is all about,” says Carley Bruning, Executive Director of the Thayer County Economic Development Alliance (TCEDA). “You can see school artwork, meet 4H students, talk to local business owners, and celebrate with the whole community.”

While this is a family-friendly event, the county fair includes a beer garden for adults who want to enjoy a refreshment with their live music and entertainment. 

Find Your Thayer County Getaway 

If you’re looking for rest and relaxation during your time in Thayer County, explore some of the hotels and private lodging options in the area. Hebron is home to the Riverside Motel (with pet-friendly accommodations) and several Airbnbs. Here are a few that you might like, whether you are a couple seeking a romantic getaway or need room for the whole family:

• Find fresh produce at the Chester Farmers Market from 5 PM to 7 PM on Wednesdays. This is a great way to pick up fresh, locally grown produce or baked goods for dinner. 
• Attend the Backyard Bricks Farmers Market in Hebron every Saturday from 8 AM to 10:30 AM. Chat with locals, play cards, and enjoy being part of the community. 
• Visit the Thayer County Museum. Meet the people who comprise Thayer County through the items they donate. Learn what events shaped this community.
• Saddle up to the Spring Creek Museum of the Horse and Cowboy. See rare saddles, bridles, and memorabilia that harken to the Wild West. 
• Spend your afternoon shopping. Visit local boutiques and your favorite stores to refresh your wardrobe and home decor. You can also shop the Trail of Treasures from October 2-4, a 238-mile road of garage sales that runs through Thayer County. 
• Follow your favorite food trucks. You can find good eats around town in Deshler and Bruning as various food trucks attend events and set up shop in popular areas.
